It has been a while since I updated my blog! Have you all seen this video yet?

During Japan's economic growth, the problem of congestion during commuting to and from work was very serious.

Up until then, the old "old type Kokuden," or brown trains, were the norm, but a new type of train was introduced to address this social problem.

This was the 103 series, an upgraded version of the 101 series train, which debuted in 1962.

These trains were used on the Yamanote Line and other commuter lines in central Tokyo, and as many as 3,447 cars were produced by 1983.

Later, with the privatization of the company, JR West took over about 900 cars, but the number was reduced to 48 by 2022 as new cars were introduced.

In March 2022, two trains, NS407 and NS409, which had been operating on the Nara Line, were removed from service. In this video, the running scenes of these two trains are recorded, and the history of 103 Series commuter trains is reviewed.

The second part of the video traces the R1 formation, which was introduced in 1962 and retains the atmosphere of that era among the 103 Series trains. This formation was the last one to be used on the Wadamisaki Line, and it has a distinctive sky-blue exterior, doesn't it? If you like, you can check out the video!
